Respiro_Who

What

A three week stay in an agriturismo (rural vacation home) in the rolling hills of Tuscany. We will exercise the rhythms of seeking the Presence of God through solitude, community, and ministry, all within the context of utilizing our craft. As an artist-in-residence program, there will be ample time spent making art. The theme of Respiro 2015 residency will be { La Persona nel Ritratto }in which there will be an emphasis on identity and portraiture. We will be investigating identity together: God’s, ours, and others’, individually and corporately through scriptural study and commitment to prayer. We will then move outward, responding visually as we engage in conversation and create portraits of other artists present and of the local inhabitants.

Respiro_When-Where

Why

Our hope and prayer is that RESPIRO will provide time and space for God to speak to Italian and American artists in new and transformative ways about who He is, who we are, and what those Truths mean for our creative process. We hope the artists will have a unique experience making art in response to excellent biblical teaching, Christian community, contemplative prayer, ample time in scripture, and the peace and stillness of the Tuscan countryside. Our prayer is that each artist will then return back to their churches and communities revitalized and empowered to engage more deeply in their culture and motivated to pursue their art career diligently with renewed passion for the Lord.
